Ever set your goals but fell short after some time? Well, you are not alone. This can happen to all of us. We've all fallen short in life. But have you ever wondered why this happens?
The most common thing that gets in the way of our goals is ourselves. Yes, that's us with our negative self-talk, which makes us think we are not good enough. But the good news is that reaching your goals is within your control.
We have come up with 7 simple steps that can help you achieve your goals:
What is your goal?
Most people are not sure what they really want. So, the first thing that you have to do is to identify your goal. Your ultimate goal. Narrow it down by continuing to ask why until you reach your singular goal. Why do you want to lose weight? "To fit in my clothes better." Why do you want to fit in your clothes better? "So I like what I see in them mirror." Why do you want to like what you see in the mirror? "So I can gain more confidence." Bingo! There's you're ultimate goal. To gain more confidence!
Write it down
Set a Deadline
Make a List
Organize the List
Take Action
Do it Consistently
Let's Take Some Examples Here:
Now that you know all of the 7 steps to reach your goals, you must be wondering how you can apply those steps to your daily routine. Let's take a few examples here so that you can get a better understanding;
You may know why staying active is important. Most people find it challenging to do it? That's because they think they have to go through gym sessions, heavy workouts and weight lifting to reach that goal. But in reality all that requires is more physical activity.
So, if your goal is to keep yourself active, then you can reach that by applying those 7 steps, and that's how:
Goal: Walk 10,000 steps a day.
Write it down on paper—"I want to walk 10,000 steps a day."
Set a Deadline- By the end of the month
Make a list-
a. How many steps do I currently take a day? 3,000 steps / day
b. How many steps do I need to increase a day to reach 10,000 a day by the end of the
month? 300 steps / day
c. How do I get these steps? Walk for five minutes every hour, walk during my lunch break,
park your car far away, take the stairs, go for a walk after work.
d. What do I use to count my steps? A pedometer, smart watch or fitness tracker
e. What will I do if I miss a day? deflect negative thinking
Organize the list- Now organize the list from top to bottom. The things that are important are at first like completing your remaining steps before sleeping, and the things that are not much important at the end
Take action- Now that you know what to do, make yourself stick to that list of yours everyday. If you don't have time to go to the gym, go for a walk to a nearby park, or do some exercise at home.
Be Consistent- Doesn't matter what you are doing, whether it's proper workout or just a simple activity, just be consistent. That's the only key to reaching your goals.
Final Words
Don't worry if you can't complete one goal; that's ok; what you need to do is to focus on consistency. Just keep doing it. That's the only way you can reach your destination. Try to accomplish the smaller goals at first, and you will soon be at your bigger one.
If you want to lose weight, instead of getting into a strict diet plan, add some simple changes like swapping snacks and desserts with fresh fruits and nuts, having healthy breakfast like nonfat yogurt, eggs and avocados, try to cook at home with healthy ingredients instead of going outside every other day.
These all simple things can make a great difference when they come together. And all you have to do is to do these things one by one. And you are good to Go.
