Diet Frameworks

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed with all the different diets out there? Are you confused about which one to choose? Well, you're not alone! There are so many diets to choose from; keto, calorie counting, whole thirty, Atkins, paleolithic, carnivore, low fat, low carbs, whole 30 and the list goes on and on. But here's the truth: there is no secret diet that is more effective than all of the others.

So, what's the solution? The key is to choose the diet that is easiest for you to follow and sustain. Because let's face it, the biggest threat to your weight loss is quitting! And it's not about going on a restrictive diet, it's about healthy eating. Eat whole grains instead of white bread, vegetables instead of french fries, fruit instead of sweets, white meat instead of beef, and drink water instead of coke. It's really that simple!

Firstly, before we get into the different frameworks we recommend intermittent fasting as it can be done with all diets. It's easy, just skip breakfast, have lunch at 12pm and eat an early dinner at 5-6pm. You can have healthy snacks in between such as low carb, high protein/fat foods like nuts, greek yogurt, rice cakes. Just watch out for sneaky added sugars in these foods. This will make your body more efficient in losing weight

Now, let's look at some different frameworks and choose one that works best for you.

  • Divide your plate: Divide your plate into 1/2 fresh vegetables, 1/4 starchy carbs (whole wheat bread, wheat pasta, etc.) and 1/4 white meat (beef and pork in moderation).

  • Dial down: Slowly and surely start taking away the bad stuff. Drink a lot of pop? Stop just that or cut it in half and eat everything else like normal. In two weeks, continue to gradually take that out or take something else out.

  • Avoid unhealthy foods: Don't worry about what to eat, only pay attention to what not to eat: candy, soda, pastries, chips, pizza, burgers, fries etc. Everything else will take care of itself.

  • 80/20: Eat healthy 80% of the time and give yourself slack 20% of the time.

  • Avoid these white foods: white flour (pasta, bread, cereals, etc.), sugar, white rice. After that, you can pretty much eat whatever you want for the most part.

  • No processed foods: Eat nothing with a label that was processed or preserved.

  • Eat from this list: If you don't want to have to think about it and want to be told what to eat, just choose a meal from this list: https://www.joinleanleaf.com/post/what-do-i-eat-to-lose-weight.

So, there you have it. Stick to one of these frameworks to help you start a healthy, sustainable diet! Remember, it's not about finding the "perfect" diet, it's about making small changes that you can stick to for the long haul. Happy healthy eating!
