Let's start by changing your mindset, which plays an important role when it comes to your self-control and the choices you make.
How Does this Mindset Work?
If you believe in yourself and think you can do it, you will probably do an amazing job.
If you lack self belief and don't think you can do this, You probably not going to even start.
Our mindset has a big effect on what we are going to do or not. After all, our brain has the power to convince us to do anything, whether it is the broccoli juice every morning, or the cheeseburger every night.
As humans, we all have our own different beliefs about our abilities and how much we can do in our lives.
There are two different types of mindsets.
Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset
Fixed Mindset: A person with a fixed mindset believes that their abilities are not enough and cannot change much. So no matter how much effort they put out, if you are not good at something you will never be. Just like, I am who I am, there is nothing I can do to change, or it is hard, I cannot do this, I should give up.
Growth Mindset: A person with a growth mindset believes in his talent and hard work. He knows he can learn from his mistakes and do better next time. For example; I can learn new things with every step, and become good at it with time, or, I can become better if I try hard, it is all on my efforts.
Who Tends to Be More Successful?
People with a growth mindset tend to be more successful at what they do- whether it is their practical life or changing habits, they know they can do it with their hard work and dedication.
The mindset is instilled at a young age, whether it is a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. How?
Let's take a quiz for better understanding;
Quiz-1
A child has made a beautiful piece of art. To help that child develop a growth mindset, how would you compliment him?
Good! You have worked so hard on that painting
You have a god-gifted talent
It is the first one. Praising the child for his hard work will make him see their efforts worthy. He will start to believe in his efforts. But if you choose the second option, he would only believe in his talents, and when he is going to fail at a task, he won't make further effort thinking that maybe he is not talented.
Quiz-2
A child has done a good job in his presentation, how would you compliment him to develop that growth mindset;
This is all just because of the good training given to you.
You have worked so hard on this project, and that's why it became a success.
It is the second option. When you promote hard work it will motivate greater efforts in the future.
But if you choose the first option, they won't put much effort next time, as they only think about the training, and if he fails they blames it on the training and that's it. not trying again.
Makes sense right?
That's how you develop a growth mindset in a child which affects its life decisions and big choices in the future.
Well, it is true that mindset is developed at a young age but it does not mean you cannot change your fixed mindset.
We have good news for you. Just like you have developed that fixed mindset it is possible to develop a growth mindset as well. And all the changes that you have adapted till now, prove that you can also change your mindset.
So keep on that positive change and stick to those, we will be here for you at every step cheering you.
